In 1969, La Spaziale of Bologna, Italy, created a patented espresso system that warmed water with steam rather than boiling. The brand continues to innovate. Its new compact machine is made exclusively for Clive Coffee in Portland, Ore., and functions like a commercial model, with stainless-steel filters and a dual-boiler system. It has handsome walnut panels, a portafilter handle, and a manual-fill 3-liter tank.
La Spaziale LUCCA
The La Spaziale S1 has long been a team favorite here at Clive. Our customers have appreciated the solid build quality and generous steam power.
Our founder Mark traveled to Bologna to work with La Spaziale to develop a few customizations to the S1, specifically designed for our customers. The LUCCA is the result of this collaboration.
The LUCCA mark shines through the control panel's modern matte finish and the matching matte drip tray contrasts with the gloss black La Spaziale badge. The back of the machine is all stainless, which makes a fantastic contrast to the wood side panels that we make here in Portland.
This machine's commercial quality internal components include double boilers, a rotary pump, programmable pre-infusion, and a direct-connection to your water line.
The volume of water to be dispensed for single and double shots is easily programmable. While most people keep the factory temperature setting of 202°, the brewing temperature can be adjusted to your liking using the control pad.
We find the tall, narrow 53mm portafilter basket to be very forgiving, and a nice espresso blend like the Lovejoy can be dialed in to pull beautiful, sweet shots.
If you appreciate the distinctive shape of the La Spaziale S1 line, you'll love the subtle design upgrades we've added to this well-regarded machine.

Dedicated boilers for steam and espresso mean that recovery time is rapid and temperature stability is excellent.
Programmable shot dosing
With the ability to pre-program shot volumes, it's easy to get consistently good espresso.
It's simple to adjust the temperature in the group boiler with a front-access touch pad.
You may program in a pre-infusion time that works best with your coffee and technique.
Plastic Side Panels
The stock side panels are black plastic. If this bothers you, consider our custom wood side panel upgrades.
Short shot drop distance
The distance between the stock portafilter spouts and the drip tray grate are the same as on our other machines, but you may find it easier to fit larger mugs underneath with a bottomless portafilter.
