There is a lot of work that goes into preparing for Thanksgiving dinner, and if your family is anything like mine, everyone has a job. But this long day of meal preparation cannot be done without coffee, otherwise who knows what could go wrong? From the moment you rise, until the turkey coma sets in, we have a coffee schedule that will keep everyone in tip-top shape.
First things first, you have a long day ahead of you. Whether you’re taking charge of the meal all by yourself, or you’re simply providing moral support from the couch, you are going to need that heavy caffeine rush to start your day. I suggest getting your coffee going automatically this early unless making your Chemex is the highlight of the morning. Turn to your Technivorm or Bonavita to do all the hard work while you find the perfect holiday playlist to get you through the day.
Alright… turkey is in the oven and the potatoes are boiling. We’ve reached mid-day, it’s starting to feel like nap time and appears everyone could use a pick-me-up. Easy and fast, macchiatos are my preference when I feel the mid-day lull start to kick in. Pull your shot of espresso to about 1.5oz and add just a couple ounces of lightly steamed milk.
The day is reaching an end. Dinner is done and dessert has been devoured. At this point in the night my family usually ends up gathering in the living room to hang out, watch a movie or play a board game. This is when I usually like to make some vanilla lattes for everyone (vanilla steamers for the kiddos). Thankfully the vanilla syrup will probably be the easiest thing you make today.
Here’s what you need:
1 cup of raw sugar
1 cup of hot water
1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Heat some water in a pot and bring to a boil. Measure out one cup and mix with sugar. Stir until all has dissolved, add vanilla extract.
To make your vanilla latte add a splash of syrup into the cup with your espresso, steam your milk and then pour your heart into it.
